Thrifty or Cheap? You Be The Judge.

So this morning, I was trying to put on Sammy's shoes and I noticed that his shoe velcro was coming unattached from the shoe itself. Does that make sense? I will post a pic in a minute. Anyways, I had some velcro and proceeded to cut a piece off to put on the shoe so that it will attach nicely again. Why I try to do these type of things in the morning I will never know; but I did. So while the boys are arguing over who gets to read what side of the cereal box at the breakfast table, I cut the velcro to the perfect size (laying the velcro on top of the strap) and in so doing, yes, you guessed it, I cut the strap of the shoe also. Notice in the photo the new velcro attached to the old velcro? LOL!

Now, the cheap part comes in to play. Sammy has two extra tennis shoes that fit him perfectly and are clean enough to wear to school. And I have two brand new pairs in the next size up for him in case he grows unexpectedly. I got them on clearance this summer (while buying his new Speed Racer shoes for the first day of school) at Target for $3.74 to be exact. So we tried the new ones; but alas, they are still to big for him. So I should have just let him wear one of his older shoes and sent him off to school. And then I could have doctored his shoes when I was calm and collected. He-he! When is that???!

FYI, the Speed Racer shoes only cost $4.24. Why didn't I just throw them away? Is the economy getting that bad???! LOL! Maybe because he has only worn them since the first day of school- almost 4 weeks. UGH!

My question to you is "Am I cheap or am I thrifty?" :-)
